Nature has its own unique way of maintaining balance in the ecosystem. However, there is no word like absolute, perfect or constant in nature's own dictionary. There is a continuous process of evolution which may be also termed as "adjustment."


Any sign of deviation from the so called natural balance in the ecosystem is the indication that something wrong is happening. Therefore, some pests or disease is showing up as threat to the crop. But then solution to that problem is also lying around there itself. Perhaps the vicious cycle of 'adjustment is somewhat got disturbed; hence things are looking inappropriate.



Normally in any uncultivated portion of land, natural vegetation grows as per seasonal cycle. Starting from beginning of the season, during peak of the season many kinds of pest & diseases are observed in those naturally grown plants. But all the plants of any one type or many types get affected by same pest or disease simultaneously. Logic behind this is very simple: multiple types of plants grow randomly in an area, in which some are susceptible or tolerant or resistant to a set of pest or disease. Hence, this variation in the population of mix types of plants actually maintains "Level 1 of the natural balance in that ecosystem. There are many micro-organisms present in that ecosystem, whose life cycle is imbibed into the life cycle of these pest & diseases. For example, the insects also get infected by fungus, bacterial or even virus & get fatal diseases. Similarly, the diseases occurring pathogens such as Bacillus thuringenesis (BT), Bacillus subtillis, Tricoderma viridea etc., are also infected by many other micro-organisms. This is the "Level 2 of the natural balance in that ecosystem. Next level Le. "Level 3" is about parasites like Yarsagumba & predators like Praying Mentis who plays important role in maintaining the natural balance in that ecosystem. Birds &

other animals feed on many pests which are in the "Level - 4" of the natural balance in that ecosystem. Same system also works in an Organic crop field. There is no damage observed beyond Economic Threshold fecosystem is undisturbed Level if till "Level-4."



When the balance in ecosystem is somehow disturbed, because of human interference, the remedy is also lies in the hand of the man which is actually present within the following four "Level" only.


A. Level-1: Weeds with in a crop field & many other plants with in the vicinity of that plot, which are not infected by the same pests & diseases, have tolerance or resistance hence must be used in making the medicine against those pests & diseases.


B. Level-2: Combination of various microbial cultures, as mentioned above, are used very effectively in controlling the imbelance in ecosystem with in crop plot.


C. Level-3: Avoid the plant protection measures which may indiscriminately also kill the parasites & predators present within the ecosystem of the crop plot. Here it is very important to understand that sometimes releasing extra population of any predator or parasite may result into creating a future problem, again because of imbalance in the ecosystem. Therefore, protection of them is better than releasing extra population.


D.Level -4: Avoid the plant protection measures which may indiscriminately also kill the birds & other animals present within the ecosystem of the crop plot.


MODE OF ACTION IN ORGANIC PLANT PROTECTION MEASURES

First it is very important to understand that how exactly it acts to protect the crop plants from attack of pests & diseases. Any solution made from different types of organic materials, act in the similar manner just like the synthetic pesticides ie. as systemic or contact or fumigant or repellant.


a. Systemic Action: The solution has to be absorbed by the plant elther by leaves or roots or both, which then spreads in the ente plant system (into each cell of every body part).

b. Contact Action: The solution acts on the pest or pathogen as it comes in contact with the compounds present in the solution (wet or dry). This action happens outside plant's body


c. Fumigant Action: There are certain compounds which form gas which affects both respiratory system enervous system of the pests.


d. Repellant Action: This happens in two ways Le. if the solution had bad odor then pest moves away. Secondly it changes the taste of the plant part on which the pest is feeding on. Therefore, due to bad taste also the pest moves away.

ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC PEST CONTROL MEASURES



1. It contains naturally produced multiple ingredients which act at different ways.


2. Generally action happens on multiple stages in the life cycle of the pests.


3. Due to presence of the wide range of active ingredients, there is no scope 'resistance development towards any of the active ingredients.


4. Due to presence of the wide range of active ingredients, multi- modal prophylactic action happens on the pests.


5. Fumigant acts on the pest by hampering their breathing process or their nervous system by paralyzing it temporarily or permanently.



MATERIALS USED IN ORGANIC PEST CONTROL

Nature has given us three very important products from Cow Le. Milk, Dung & Urine. The first & most important of these three products is 'Milk' which for the nourishment of its calf; remaining quantity is for human consumption, because there is much similarity in human milk & cow milk. Whereas, Cow dung & cow urine are for nourishment of soil & plants. These are very important ingredients in preparation of any kind of organic medicine for control of pests & diseases.
