1. Seed: This is the resting or sleeping stage of a plant. The miniature plant is encapsulated in the seed with sufficient quantity of stored food for sprouted seed in future

2. Seedling: Germinated seed develops into a plant; seedling is the immediate next stage of sprouted seed. It is called seedling as soon as the tiny plant starts shaping up in to root system (underground) and stem & leaves above ground. At this stage it starts making own food through photosynthesis. Sumptuous root development is very much necessary for the uptake of sufficient quantity of nutrient from this stage onwards till fruiting stage.

3. Growth: Plant is exceedingly hungry for food as in this period (juvenile stage) of the plant, maximum vegetative growth happens. Nutrient uptake is fast & in optimum quantity. Leaves & branches grow all round; plants takes full form & shape during this period.

4. Flowering: The plant enters into reproductive phase; flower bud initiation is observed. Vegetative growth slows down drastically as the plant advances in this period. More profuse flowering happens which also indicates the productivity potential of the plant.

5. Fruit/Seed: Pollination happens in the flowers which ultimately results into the seed development & formation of seed. Fruit plants show the sign of fruit formation. Fruit development is actually 'triggering on' by fertilization process after pollination.
